As many of you know, the Guadalupe River rose over 30 feet—well above its major flood stage—resulting in tragic loss of life and severe damage. Kerrville is home to two of our own Rotary Clubs, and together we are committed to standing with the community as they begin the long road to recovery.

Your generous contribution will:
  • Provide some immediate relief to affected families
  • Support local Rotarians in cleanup and rebuilding efforts
  • Fund long-term recovery solutions within our communities
Rotary District 5840 is now accepting tax-deductible donations through our 501(c)(3) Foundation to support urgent disaster relief efforts following the devastating flooding in Kerrville and nearby areas. Along with the Rotary District, DistasterAid is also supporting efforts. There will be opportunities in the future to provide volunteer efforts, so stay tuned!

More on the story...

On July 4, 2025, Kerr County, Texas was devastated by catastrophic flash flooding following an extreme weather event that brought over a foot of rainfall to the region in just a few hours. The storm, fueled by remnants of Tropical Storm Barry and intensified by additional Gulf and Pacific moisture, overwhelmed the Guadalupe River and surrounding tributaries. In Hunt, the river rose approximately 22 feet in just two hours before damaging the local gauge at a record 29 feet. Downstream communities like Kerrville and Comfort saw similar surges, with water levels reaching as high as 30 feet in some areas. Despite flood watches and warnings issued in the days leading up to the storm, local officials and residents were unprepared for the magnitude of the flooding. Crucial river gauges failed mid-storm, leaving emergency responders without real-time data to guide evacuations and rescue efforts.

The flood's toll on the community has been staggering. As of July 7, at least 75 people in Kerr County have been confirmed dead, many of them children attending Camp Mystic, a beloved summer camp situated along the Guadalupe River. More than 850 individuals were rescued, hundreds of homes were damaged or destroyed, and vital infrastructure—including roads, bridges, and utility lines—was severely impacted. Entire neighborhoods were inundated with little warning, leaving families scrambling for higher ground in the middle of the night.
